Google Pixel 6A Specs, Release Date, Price in India

The Google Pixel 6a was unveiled at Google I/O and has received a significant overhaul compared to its predecessor. It’s a more affordable alternative to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that came out the year before and offered similar features while retaining the Pixel 5a’s cost by keeping features like the primary camera and display at lower specifications.

The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro brought about a dramatic shift in Google’s strategy for smartphones. After years of fighting the current with components off the shelf that are not the best, this Pixel 6 series truly brings many innovative and top-of-the-line features, primarily due to Google’s Tensor chip. It also makes Google’s coming mid-ranger, called the Pixel 6a, more interesting.

Google Pixel 6A Specifications

It runs Android 12 and features a 6.1-inch full-HD+ (1080×2400 pixels) OLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device comes with an octa-core Google Tensor SoC integrated with a Titan security processor and 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

The Pixel 6a has a Triple rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor, an ultra-wide 12-megapixel camera, and a 12-megapixel for the telephoto sensor. 6a comes with an 8-megapixel selfie camera for video chats and selfies in the front.

The Pixel 6A has 128GB of internal storage. It has various connectivity options, including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and a USB Type C port. The phone also supports 4G LTE and Bluetooth v5.2.

Google Pixel 6A Design

Google’s Pixel 6a has been designed to be compatible with its siblings, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, with the camera bar design at the rear, a middle punch-hole camera at the front, and an under-display fingerprint sensor underneath. One minor difference is that all cameras are located under a single, oval glass cover that makes the lenses stand out.

The phone shares a similar style to its predecessors, with identical camera bars; however, it has smaller cut-outs for the lens that make it look more classy to our eyes.

Google Pixel 6A comes with Google calls a “3D thermoformed composite front’ which is an elaborate way to describe plastic. It should make it more resistant to droppings, at the very least.

It comes in at 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.9mm and 178g. Google Pixel 6A is protected with Gorilla Glass 3, making it more durable than regular glass, but it’s not as robust as some displays. The Pixel 6a also comes with an alloy frame that is ‘tactile’ and an IP67 rating, meaning it’s water and dust resistant.

Display

Google has outfitted its Pixel 6a with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with FHD resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 exterior. It’s just a bit less than the 6.34-inch display in the Pixel 5a.

Additionally, it has an oblique cut-out for the punch-hole like other Pixel 6 phones. It comes with 1080 x 2400 resolution, with a resolution of 429 pixels for every inch, and HDR support. Unfortunately, this phone it’s set with a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s slower than many modern Android phones, which have moved towards smoother 90Hz and 120Hz speeds.

Google Pixel 6A Camera

Camera performance is always one of the main advantages of Google’s Pixel phones. But, be prepared to be disappointed if you think the Pixel 6a has the same 12MP camera as the 6 and 6 Pro. Google uses the same camera sensors in the Pixel 6a as those found on the 5a, first utilized in the Pixel 3 series in 2018.

This lens is most likely the same one that you’ll find on the Google Pixel 5a. It’s an “old” Pixel system that Google utilized for many years before launching its Pixel 6 series. In the old Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google used newer 12MP sensors paired with more modern ultrawide sensors.

Google Pixel 6A Performance

In addition to the Snapdragon sensors used in previous Pixel phones, we now have the Google Tensor chipset, just like the flagship Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It should provide some extra performance than its competitors, but it’s not as powerful as the performance of the flagship Pixels as it comes with only 6GB of RAM, not 12GB or 8GB, and 128GB of Storage.

Google has confirmed that 5G is available for the Pixel 6a, including the standard sub-6GHz version and the more popular mmWave variant that some U.S. carriers use.

It’s a good thing if you’d like to upgrade onto the 6a while maintaining your current carrier or if you’re in the market for the latest phone to be capable of making use of the mmWave’s higher speeds.

Battery

The Pixel 6a’s battery is a battery of 4,410mAh, which is a little less than its predecessor’s 4,680mAh cell. We hope that Google has made additional changes to ensure that the phone is more efficient if the 5a doesn’t perform as well in tests like the TG custom battery tests.

Google does not think you need to be worried, though. The official estimates suggest that you’ll be able to get up to 24 hours of continuous use from the 6a or up to 72 hours on Extreme Battery Saver mode.

The only thing that hasn’t changed from last year’s model is the speed of charging. In contrast, there’s no doubt that the Pixel 6 series got a 30W fast charger.

OS – Android 12

The Pixel 6a comes equipped with Android 12. In addition to Android and UI, you’ll get Pixel UI, similar to the standard Android. In all respects, it’s the same software that you’ll find in Google’s Pixel 6, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

Google offers three Android upgrades and 5 years’ worth of security updates. The Google Pixel 6a will get Android 13 in 2022, Android 14 in 2023, and Android 15 by 2024. The device will continue to receive regular security updates until 2026.

It is the second-best software update policy available in the history of Android. The only company to beat it is Samsung, which offers four Android updates with five years’ worth of patch updates. However, Pixel phones get the most recent version of Android on the day of its launch, that’s a significant advantage over Samsung phones.
