How to turn on chat backup on android phone
- First, open WhatsApp.
- Then go to the Settings menu.
- Now go to the chat option.
- Tap Chat Backup.
Here you can select daily, weekly, or monthly chat backup as per your convenience or do a manual backup. Next, select the Google account where you want to store the backup.

How to Recover/restore deleted WhatsApp messages on an android
- First, uninstall WhatsApp from your Android smartphone or iPhone.
- Now reinstall WhatsApp and verify it with your phone number.
- Once the app is verified, you will get a prompt to restore messages from cloud/drive backup.
- The backup will be from Google Drive on Android, and iCloud on iOS.
- Then tap Restore.
- This will bring back messages that you accidentally deleted.
Note: if you received a message after your most recent cloud backup and it was deleted, there is no way to recover it.
Another way to restore deleted WhatsApp chats is to recover them from local backup on your Android device. If your Google Drive backup has overwritten the deleted messages, follow the steps below.
Your local backup will store files for the last seven days.
If your data is not stored in the / SDcard / WhatsApp / folder, you can check in the main storage or internal storage folder. First, restore the recent local backup.

Go to the file manager of your Android phone.

Now go to “Database” in the WhatsApp folder.

The database folder contains WhatsApp backup files on your phone which are stored locally.

Now select the Msgstore.db.crypt12 file.

Then rename it msgstore_BACKUP.db.crypt12.

It contains your most recent backup file and you will have to rename it so as to prevent it from being overwritten.

If it goes wrong, you can change this file to its original name and restore it.

You will see a group of files in this folder in the format of messtore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12.

Which is your old WhatsApp backup, you can take the most recent one and rename it msgstore.db.crypt12.
You can open Google Drive on your smartphone and click on the three vertical lines icon, tap on backup. Delete WhatsApp backup there. Which will force your phone to be restored from local backup.
Uninstall WhatsApp, then reinstall.
Once done, you will be prompted to restore the chat from a local backup, considering that the chat backup is not on the cloud.
Now tap on restore and you will get deleted chat back.
To successfully restore a backup from Google Drive, you will need to use the same phone number and Google account to create the backup from which you created the WhatsApp account before.
